The Whitianga Scallop Festival is a festival in the seaside Coromandel Town that is a celebration of local seafood and cuisine.
A hugely popular event, it hosts around 5000 guests and sells out each year.
People come from all over Australasia, drawn in by the delicious scallops and seafood on offer.

Co owner of Two Fat Cats in Auckland, Aaron is a local identity and outdoors-man who rose to cooking prominence on the TV series ‘My Kitchen Rules’ which he din’t win, and doesn’t like to be reminded about.
THE RECIPE: FIJIAN STYLE SCALLOP VAKALOLO
(serves 2 - 4 guests)
500gm shelled scallops
200gms Mango Pickle
Pinch of Saffron
Pinch of Chilli
Salt and Pepper
500gms Coconut Cream
Bring all ingredients EXCEPT scallops to a boil in a pot.
Pan fry scallops in butter until golden.
Put cooked scallops onto a warm plate and smother with sauce.
